The Country Living Christmas Fair, hosted in the spa town of Harrogate from 1 to 4 December, showcases the latest collections of more than 200 UK independent producers, crafters, and artisan retailers – all under one roof.
Shoppers can meet the makers and find the very best produce and unique gifts from the length and breadth of the UK, from pottery studios in Nottinghamshire to spirits from the most westerly distillery in Scotland, to textiles from the rolling hills of rural Wales.
Dan Sewell, Event Director, said: “You don’t have to trek off the beaten track, or scour the country to find that must-have Christmas gift. Ethically-minded shoppers can come and support hundreds of independent businesses, artists and craftspeople, while enjoying a shopping experience like no other, whatever the weather outside.”
There will also be a wealth of artisan producers from right here in Yorkshire, who will showcase their latest wares.
Lást is a small design studio ran by couple, Thomas Moore and Angel Jones, based out of York. Lást is old English for ‘footprint or track’, and the duo specialise in maps and custom artwork that celebrates adventure and the natural world. Everything is hand drawn.
Also drawing inspiration from the natural world is The Silicone Straw Company. Based in Grassington, it’s the brainchild of Charlotte Walsh, who was inspired to create alternatives to single use plastics after seeing bottles, straws and wrappers pollute her local river. Her beautifully designed, silicone re-usable straws make it easier for families to live greener. In the last three years, she’s saved 2 million single use straws from being sent to landfill.
Food lovers can indulge in gifts and hampers straight from the Yorkshire Wolds. Charlie & Ivy’s is an award-winning brand, using its own cold pressed Yorkshire rapeseed oil in all of its products, which secured them a Great Taste Award. They produce seriously, tasty dippers, dressing, and mayo crafted at the family-run farm.
Art lovers can get their hands on works by the countryside and wildlife artist, Laura Pennell, whose work is fit for royalty. Laura, who is based in North Yorkshire, lives on an idyllic farm where her family breeds rare Dales ponies. Laura was asked by the Fell Pony Society to provide artwork for their Centenary celebrations and make a very special gift for HM the Queen. Laura created a drawing of the Queen’s mare and a silk headscarf, featuring Her Majesty’s own fell pony, which was presented as a gift to HM the Queen in May 2022 at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
From Bedale, Plewsy brings playful illustration designed to put smiles on faces with their luxury eco-friendly greeting cards and gifts. It was founded by the designer Fiona Fawcett and is a small, independent and female run creative business, that aims to put a ‘little lift’ into your everyday. You’ll find playful, bright limited edition textiles including tea towels, children’s aprons, mugs, cosmetic bags, and art prints.
Over the four-days, around 15,000 are expected to attend the Harrogate Convention Centre. It promises gifts you can’t find on the high street, while supporting and championing the country’s independent, artisan producers, crafters and creatives.
From handcrafted products, stylish decors, soft furnishings to gourmet cheese, Christmas puddings, sweet and savoury treats, tasty tipples and fine wines, visitors can shop to their hearts’ content while soaking in the festive vibes with live music throughout the day from the Fair’s brass band and choirs.
