Cause UK is providing media relations to support the Harrogate Convention Centre, which is being turned into the NHS Nightingale Yorkshire and Humber.
Last Thursday, April 9, we handled media attending a special ‘Clap for Carers’ as the convention centre lit up blue at 8pm.
Key workers who have been part of the hospital construction were cheered by Harrogate Fire Station crew, who lined their engines up outside the venue, alongside residents in and around Kings Road for the national Clap for Carers initiative.
The venue lit up blue as part of the AEV UK initiative, which has seen over 60 theatres, cathedrals and national landmarks #lightitblue coinciding with the public #clapforourcarers; a gallery of their NHS illuminations can be found here.
Paula Lorimer said: “It’s been a challenging two weeks since work began at Harrogate Convention Centre. People here have come into work without hesitation to contribute to this remarkable feat of transforming our events space into a temporary hospital. All who have worked on the project, including Convention Centre staff from caterers to cleaners, have put their heart, soul, sweat and tears into the transformation, working around the clock to support the NHS. I am incredibly proud of my team.”
Last Thursday’s event achieved positive profile for Harrogate, with coverage showcasing the town’s pride across national print and online news sites thanks to a photo taken by Danny Lawson of the Press Association. It was also filmed by BBC Look North, ITN (national) news, Stray FM, Stray Ferret and other regional media who attended.
The venue will light up blue this Thursday (April 16) again at 8pm.
It is vital all residents nearby who live near enough to take part ensure they practice safe social distancing and stay two metres from others. Residents are asked to please not leave their gardens, balconies, doorsteps etc. or congregate in any way outside of the venue.
