Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival

In 2013, Cause UK achieved an AVE print value of over £1.8m for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Festival, and £76,090 broadcast value with features on BBC One Breakfast (with an audience of 7 million) and ITV Calendar News.

Cause UK wrote news and features ourselves, penning extensive weekly spreads in Harrogate Advertiser series, with bespoke interviews and features for publications including Yorkshire Times, Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Life, including thought leaderships on the importance of the Arts and the Festival’s economic impact, and a four-page spread in BQ Magazine for its title sponsor, Theakstons.

As well as writing and placing features, we generated coverage in The Guardian, Guardian Music Blog and Guardian Travel where it featured as one of the best crime-writing festivals around the world. It also featured in the Telegraph, Telegraph Online Times, Independent, Daily Mail, Sun, BBC Online, The Bookseller, Spectator, Harper’s Bazaar, and The Big Issue nationally, as well as regionally in York Press, Telegraph & Argus, Craven Herald, Scotsman, Northern Echo, BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Leeds, Stray FM and online via targeted bloggers. The Festival also featured on special edition of BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, and an in-depth feature on BBC Radio 2.

Cause UK also handled all media at the event itself, co-ordinating three film crews, BBC Radio 4, Calendar News, Stray FM, and print journalists from all over the world.

We assisted a number of bespoke films for the Festival with VWP Films; Cause interviewed authors, sponsors and key stakeholders.
