Besbrode Pianos Gifts Piano to Asda Lorry Driver

An Asda delivery driver, Elly Bajearas, 54, has been gifted a piano by Besbrode Pianos in Leeds after his piano performance at a customer’s home went viral.

Francesca Green from Lutterworth in Leicestershire noticed the delivery driver’s admiration for her grand piano after he had delivered her weekly shop.

Mr Bajarias said: “I just arrived at Francesca’s house with the groceries when I saw the grand piano and was just mesmerised by it. I’d never played on one before. I only have a keyboard at home. We got talking and she asked me if I’d like to play it. It was really enjoyable. It was nice to feel the soft touch of ivory as a keyboard is so different.”

The father-of-three played in a Hong Kong band before moving to the UK 20 years ago. He’s been working for Asda for three years.
Besbrode Pianos is one of the UK’s last remaining piano specialists and restorers in the UK. Based in Holbeck, Leeds, in a 1780s three-storey woollen mill, it is an emporium of antique and modern pianos, that regularly exports across the world.

Marketing Manager Sophie Pitcher said: “When we heard Elly’s story, we loved it. It shows the universal power pianos can have to captivate players and audiences alike. The number of online views it’s had is part of a wider piano revival in the UK. Leeds was once one of the largest piano producing cities, and every home of course had one years ago, so this kind of story is very much up our street.”

For the last 50 years Besbrode Pianos has sold luxury and ornate pianos to Lords and Ladies, global pop stars (three to Noel Gallagher alone) and also rents out his concert grands for high profile concerts, to cathedrals and to touring pop stars.

The warehouse boasts around 300 new, decorative, and antique pianos, including concert grand Steinways, Bechsteins and Yamahas.

The viral video of Elly Bajearas has earned more than 1,300 comments and more than 7,000 reactions from stunned viewers.
Mr Bajearas was invited onto the Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch on 30 May 2023, when he was presented with the piano as a gift from Besbrode Pianos.
