One of Cause UK’s clients, the Key Fund, is the north’s leading investor in Social Enterprise. It provides loans and grants to enterprises that make positive impact, tackling social issues in the heart of their communities.

As part of our PR support we regularly write award nominations on behalf of Key Fund clients to raise profile of their incredible work, and the impact of Key Fund’s investments.

We’re delighted Key Fund’s client The Gingerbread House is now award-winning!

Cause UK wrote the award nomination for Nathan Taylor at Your Community Hub, trading as The Gingerbread House. Nathan won the Social Entrepreneur Award at the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards 2017 on March 28, hosted at the Cardiff Marriott Hotel.

Nathan was one of three award entries Cause UK submitted on behalf of our client, Key Fund; Higher Rhythm Ltd was also a Finalist in the Award for Sustainability category.

Your Community Hub took over Humberston library due to closures by local government. It established a café, and rents space to local businesses. They developed a range of fee paying activities for the community, alongside a book loaning club. It became self-sustaining within 6 months.

The social enterprise works towards financial sustainability to preserve and improve two local libraries – victims of market failure. In the past 18 months, it has kept two libraries open, one in the most deprived area of the country. 50% of Humberston holds the library, the remaining area the café, retail space and areas for activities. Market research within the community established the demand for a tearoom and community meeting space, including parent toddler classes.
