Miriam Margolyes

Cause UK represents good causes, charities, the arts and ethical businesses in the media and curates and hosts events.

The marvellous Miriam Margolyes – a national treasure and BAFTA-winning actress much-loved for her roles in Harry Potter and Call the Midwife – will feature in an exclusive Cause UK Zoom event in the run up to Christmas.

Helping officially launch the festive season, and revive the nation’s spirits, Miriam will be interviewed by none other than the great, great, great granddaughter of Charles Dickens – the author Lucinda Hawksley. Just 100 tickets are available for the live Zoom, which takes place on December 6.

The event is launched by Cause UK, the creative agency that brought film-icon Ken Loach and actor Brian Blessed to Harrogate before lockdown. The team has worked with Miriam Margolyes for many years on its Christmas festivals.

Lucinda Hawksley will lead the intimate conversation and promises to explore Miriam’s career, her political views and activism, and her scholarly and lifelong passion for Charles Dickens. She commented: “I’ve had to become a bit of a pro at Zoom this year, doing events all over the world on Charles Dickens and my books, and this one promises to be extra special. With our connection over my ancestor, Miriam and I have grown into great friends, and I think we all desperately feel the need for some of her feisty spirit, warm humanity and humour to get us into a more festive mood this year.”

The nation has fallen in love with the BAFTA Award-winning actress thanks to her recent documentaries, including Miriam’s Big Fat Adventure, Almost Australian, Miriam’s Big American Adventure and various trips to the Real Marigold Hotel, which revealed her brilliant humour, frank opinions, huge warmth and indomitable spirit.

Empathetic, life-affirming and fuelled by plenty of chutzpah, Miriam is not afraid to bring unfiltered fun as a chat show favourite on the Graham Norton show. Daytime hosts Phil and Holly have had to apologise for Miriam’s unrepentant use of various naughty words. She’s doesn’t hesitate to share her robust opinions on injustices in the world, speaking up for those who need a voice, and she’s not afraid to call out the politicians who fail us.

Clair Challenor-Chadwick, Managing Director of Cause UK, said: “2020 is rough on all of us. Thank goodness for Miriam Margolyes! We are delighted to host her and Lucinda and bring a fun event direct to people’s homes. As no computer screen can possibly contain Miriam, this promises to be an evening that will electrify, entertain and enlighten.”

Audiences will have an opportunity to ask Miriam their own question. With just 100 tickets available, book now to avoid disappointment. (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/an-audience-with-miriam-margolyes-tickets-122406572353 )
