North Yorkshire artist’s open their studios in June for the biggest open studio event in the UK.
Over 90 artists across north Yorkshire will give a rare insight into their studios this summer.
North Yorkshire Open Studios (NYOS) invites the public to experience art studios usually closed to the public. During the first two weekends in June, visitors will have the unique chance to explore artists’ studios and witness their creative process first-hand.
Art lovers can go ‘through the keyhole’ of 91 artist studios selected for 2020. The scheme is supported by Patron, the Duchess of Devonshire.
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to buy original paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and crafts from emerging, as well as established, artists.
Anna Whitehouse, a Harrogate-based ceramic artist and Treasurer of NYOS, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to go on an artistic adventure. We have studios in locations that cover the diverse landscape of North Yorkshire, from the coast to the Dales. You can plan trips to take in iconic Yorkshire attractions, visit new areas, and experience the region with new eyes. There are some incredibly surprising, characterful and jaw-dropping studio spaces in stunning buildings and locations. Experiencing the studios is a chance to really appreciate the creative process, from initial inspiration to completed work, and get to meet and know the artists.”
With the trend for slow travel and staycations, the art studio trail covers coastal spots in Scarborough, through to scenic National Parks including North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, alongside picturesque villages and vibrant market towns.
Anna added: “It offers a bit of a magical mystery tour across North Yorkshire. Artists taking part will highlight other attractions near their studios – castles, abbeys, beauty spots, visitor attractions – so you can create itineraries for a full day, or even a weekend getaway break, perfect for culture vultures.”

The North Yorkshire Open Studios is an initiative run by artists, for artists.
