A new magazine for the recovery market has been launched today via the Apple and Android stores. See a preview film here http://youtu.be/LjYVMXAiqm8
Hooked magazine is aimed at functioning addicts, people in recovery, or individuals who are questioning their lifestyle choices.
The concept behind the magazine is to use the power of stories to inspire, uplift and challenge, with a focus on quality lifestyle features and interviews around addiction.
The first edition includes interviews with former footballer Paul Gascoigne, journalist and author of Chasing the Scream, Johann Hari, alongside features on a former commando suffering with PTSD and a revolutionary dance company for people in recovery.
Magazine Founder, Clair Challenor-Chadwick said, “We wanted to create a magazine that doesn’t dictate or tell people what to do, but simply relays stories. Stories are the most powerful way to connect, to speak directly, and to make people feel they are not alone. I think that’s crucial, not just for those vulnerable to addiction, but their families and loved ones, who suffer too.”
Clair said there is nothing like Hooked in the UK today. Trade magazines such as Drink and Drug News, alongside city-zines exist, but no national, consumer lifestyle magazine.
“The UK is Europe’s capital of addiction,” Clair said. “Hooked is timely; our ambition is it will be at the forefront of cultural change reducing the stigma of addiction.”
The magazine is available for sale in the Apple and Android stores for £1.49- £1.79. Revenue will help Hooked become sustainable. The team hope to recruit former and functioning addicts to work on future editions.
Clair added: “We chose the digital route as people who are suffering from addiction may want to read the magazine via the anonymity that a mobile device brings.”
The magazine app is, as well as private, designed to offer an ‘engaging, multi-media reading experience with audio and video elements, photo galleries and long articles.
Hooked is designed and produced by digital publishing specialists Start Digital, in Glasgow. Founded by Thomas Quinn, a former national newspaper and magazine journalist, Start Digital are experts in creating engaging editorial content for mobile devices.
There are over 1 million people in recovery in the market.
