New Voices Singing Competition 2026 - the stage is set

At Cause & Effect PR, we were delighted once more to provide PR support for the Northern Aldborough Festival.

This year was the 32nd festival – with ten days of world class music hosted in rural village locations – with most of the line-up hosted in the ancient St Andrew’s Church in Aldborough.

Many of the events were a sell-out, and attracted rave reviews – particularly Wild Arts Opera, which was described as ‘pure Mozartian gold’ securing five stars.

Reviewer Melanie Eskenazi, wrote: “Brahms famously said of The Marriage of Figaro that he could not understand ‘how anyone could have created anything so perfect’ and his comment sprang to mind about this Wild Arts production.”

From a press point of view, we secured over 60 meaningful pieces of media coverage for the festival.

It was a top pick in the Daily Mail’s You magazine, which said: “Forget Wuthering Heights – the real cultural event set in Yorkshire this year is the Northern Aldborough Festival.”

Country & Town House magazine named it in its list of ‘Britain’s Very Best Classical Music Festivals to Book this Summer’ And The Week magazine, flagged it in ‘The Week’s Guide to What’s Worth Seeing’.

It also made the 2026 festival guides of Gramophone magazine and BBC Music Magazine.

People’s Friend magazine did a two-page spread on their interview with the festival’s artistic director, Robert Ogden, and he also did the Yorkshire Post’s ‘My Yorkshire’ slot.

The New Voices Singing Competition ran as a feature in the Yorkshire Post, and Yorkshire Living magazine interviewed actress Joanna David who performed with pianist Lucy Parham at the festival.

Other regional coverage included Yorkshire Life, the Stray Ferret, Harrogate Advertiser, York Press, Mag North, and Yorkshire Times.

Work also included reciprocal marketing with Opera North and others to maximise audience reach.

This year, we also did a bit of filming too, to capture the finalists of the New Voices competition.
