Visit Harrogate supported the adventure and activity venue in its successful bid to secure funds from the European Structural Investment Fund, and is helping promote the new attraction in its district.
Cause UK secured filming with BBC Look North and the Press Association, whose cameraman braved the via ferrata – a high wire course of cables – just one of only three in the UK. Stray FM brought a drone, and showed no fear for abseiling. BBC Radio York broadcast live from the venue for their Breakfast Show.
Press photographers Charlotte Graham and Danny Lawson took stunning shots.
As well as a busy broadcast schedule, we secured coverage in the Sun, the Telegraph, the Guardian, Yorkshire Post, Northern Echo, Darlington and Stockton Times, York Press, and BBC Online. The PA film went to major online sites, including AOL and BT.com, and even as far as the Belfast Telegraph.
How Stean Gorge is a unique limestone gorge in the Yorkshire Dales, carved over thousands of years. The steep sided chasm over half a mile in length and up to 80 feet deep in places, is already a popular outdoor attraction for abseiling, gorge scrambling and exploring caves.
The new glass floors will allow visitors to see the gorge as never before.
Richard Spencer, CEO of Visit Harrogate, said: “As an attraction, it’s world-class. This remarkable development not only showcases the landscape that makes the Harrogate District so unique, it is a valuable addition to our tourism economy, creating jobs in our rural areas, and attracting local visitors and families, as well as tourists from further afield.”
