The story of communities mobilising local capital to take over local assets in the social enterprise sector is often an inspiring one, and there are countless examples of success over the years that the Key Fund has played an integral role in.

One that is in the media at the moment is based in a small village in Yorkshire – Hudswell – whose local pub, the George and Dragon, had gone into disuse. It was saved by the villagers who rallied together to buy it through a community share issue. The Key Fund offered the village group a £20,000 loan which was later converted into equity, which was the lynchpin to further finance. The pub is now a central hub in the community, with 190 local owners and proud 2017 CAMRA pub of the year.
