As anticipation grows for the new Harry Potter TV series and Warner Bros. has casting calls open in the UK and Ireland for the show, children’s TV business in booming for Articulate Agency.

The growth of children’s TV has seen a demand for child actors.

Articulate Agency

Articulate Agency, which specialises in children and teen acting talent, has seen a five-fold increase in cast roles in the last six years, with over 150 speaking roles cast this year to date. In addition, around 500 children are currently filming Supporting Artist (non-speaking) roles.

The BBC has committed £34 million to children’s content for 2022-2025, signalling the unwavering dedication to this sector. With the rise of bespoke streaming channels for children on Netflix, Disney, Sky, plus, CBeebies and Milkshake, little people’s TV is big business.

Based in Yorkshire, Articulate Agency is a preferred agency for major casting directors. It also runs a competitively priced drama school in locations across the county, helping to break down barriers.

The Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre found that just over 8% of creatives working in film, TV and radio are from working class backgrounds, with over 60% being middle or upper class – the highest rate in the last ten years, according to Equity.

Stacey Burrows, founder and director of Articulate Agency, said: “The increased demand for child actors on TV has opened up incredible opportunities for young talent. We’re incredibly proud to be nurturing raw talent, and creating transformative opportunities for children and teens from diverse backgrounds, across the UK.”

It offers affordable drama classes and clubs, as well as a number of scholarships. One of its teenagers who was awarded a scholarship, is now in a major Netflix drama.

Stacey said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to develop, train and nurture real and raw talent. We have actors in major productions, but the majority have regular roles or breaks in children’s TV shows. As an ethical agency that puts child and teen welfare first, we’re keen to highlight the incredible benefits acting can have for youngsters. It strengthens muscle memory, emotional intelligence, resilience, confidence, and communication skills; skills that can set them up for life, whichever career they pursue.”

Articulate Agency has a reputation for securing significant roles – particularly for children (4-15) and young adult (16-25) actors. Its clients are set to feature in films, including the highly-anticipated Peaky Blinders movie, Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, and Richard Curtis’s upcoming animation, That Christmas (Netflix).
